Report: Polish court cancels Gazprom’s fines for Nord Stream 2
WARSAW, Oct 26 (PRIME) -- The Polish court of appeal has sided with a lower court and cancelled the fines that Poland earlier imposed on Russian gas giant Gazprom and its partners over the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project, Polish newswire Puls Biznesu reported on Thursday.
The Polish antimonopoly regulator UOKiK imposed a U.S. $7.6 billion fine on Gazprom and fines totaling $61 million on the company’s partners in the Nord Stream 2 project – Engie Energy, Uniper, OMV, Shell, and Wintershall for creation of a company responsible for construction and utilization of the pipeline without approval of the regulator.
The companies appealed against the decision, and the Polish court for competition and protection of consumer rights cancelled the fines in November 2022.
Puls Biznesu reported that the court of appeal sided with the lower court and made a final decision, meaning that the decision of UOKiK “was binned”.
